United Nations International Law Fellowship 2024 (Fully Funded)

The United Nations International Law Fellowship Programme 2024 is now accepting applications. This program gives candidates the chance to learn more about international law and the legal work of the United Nations. The Codification Division of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs runs it. The goal is to help people from developing countries and emerging economies, like government officials and teachers who specialize in international law. The fellowship includes a training program led by experts in international law. It’s interactive, so participants can talk with each other and share their experiences. The United Nations International Law Fellowship Programme (ILFP) plans to select up to 20 individuals from developing and emerging countries. This fellowship will take place at The Hague Academy of International Law from July 1st to August 2nd, 2024, offering participants the opportunity to study in the Netherlands. Throughout the fellowship, participants will also engage in a summer course at the Peace Palace in The Hague and actively participate in interactive seminars and discussions. At the commencement of the program, each participant will receive a set of training materials. Upon completion of the fellowship, participants will receive a certificate from the UN.

Eligibility Criteria for United Nations International Law Fellowship Programme 2024

  1. Applicants need a legal background and experience working in international law to qualify for the UN International Fellowship.
  2. The Fellowship Program is open to people from developing countries and those with growing economies.
  3. Additionally, the fellowship is conducted in English. So, all applicants must be fluent in both written and spoken English.
  4. Candidates must also confirm their ability to participate in the entire in-person Fellowship Program.
  5. Likewise, the selection process considers candidates’ qualifications, the relevance of the training, and the extent of their professional duties.
  6. Preference may be given to candidates from Member States that have yet to send representatives to the Fellowship Program previously.
  7. Geographical diversity and gender balance are important factors in the selection process, aiming to encourage applications from qualified female candidates.

Application Process

  1. To apply, all candidates need to visit the official application portal and download the application form.
  2. Applicants should complete the application form in English using a typewriter.
  3. If additional pages are needed to provide more information, they can be attached.
  4. It’s crucial to avoid submitting incomplete applications, as they won’t be considered.
  5. Additionally, a “Letter of Transmission” must be filled out and signed by a senior official from the endorsing institution.
  6. Candidates whose native language or language of instruction isn’t English must show evidence of their English proficiency to apply for the UN Law Fellowship Programme.
  7. Completed applications should be sent via email.
  8. Applicants must provide two versions of the application form: one scanned copy of the signed original document (in PDF or JPG format) and one electronic version in MS Word format.
  9. Likewise, all fellows need to submit their complete application before the deadline.
