The National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic for 2025-2026 offers fully funded scholarships for international students, providing a robust financial support system. These scholarships are available for students who want to pursue master’s and PhD studies, with the scholarship providing up to 1025 € per month.
The Government of the Slovak Republic started the National Scholarship Programme (NSP) in 2005 to help students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists from other countries study or work in Slovakia.
The NSP is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. This program supports international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists by providing scholarships for them to study or conduct research at universities and research organizations in Slovakia.

- PhD students receive 1,025.50 € per month.

- 980 € per month if they have a PhD and less than 10 years of experience.
- 1,050 € per month if they have a PhD and more than 10 years of experience.

Eligibility Criteria for the National Scholarship Program 2024-25 in Slovakia
1. Open to all international students from around the world.
2. Must be university students enrolled at universities outside Slovakia.
3. Master’s students are eligible if they are currently in the second level of higher education (Master’s programs).
4. Undergraduate students are eligible if they have completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same study program by the application deadline.
5. This scholarship does not cover full-time Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree programs.
6. Intended for short-term study or research stays, not for full degree completion.
7. Applicants must have an invitation or acceptance for a study or research stay at a Slovak higher education institution or research organization.
8. A detailed study or research plan outlining the objectives and benefits of the stay in Slovakia must be submitted.
9. University teachers, researchers, and artists without a PhD must have less than 4 years of professional experience.
10. Those with a PhD must have either less than 10 years or more than 10 years of professional experience.
11. Proficiency in the language of instruction or research (typically Slovak or English) is required.
12. Must meet specific requirements set by the Slovak institution or organization.
13. Previous scholarship holders must show significant academic or professional progress to be considered again.

How to Apply for the National Scholarship Program
To apply for the National Scholarship Program, please follow these instructions:
First Step:
1. Applicants must fill out their online applications and upload all required attachments in the specified format.
2. Applications and attachments can only be submitted in Slovak or English. Documents in other languages must be officially translated into Slovak or English, with certification from the issuing institution.
3. For documents issued by someone other than the applicant (like recommendation letters, confirmations of study, diplomas, and admission letters), scans must be uploaded to the online application. Applicants must retain and store all original documents attached electronically and be prepared to submit these originals or certified copies if requested by the program administrator.
Second Step:
1. Fill out the application and attach all required documents.
2. Deliver the original admission/invitation letter to SAIA, n. o., in Bratislava at Sasinkova 10, 812 20 Bratislava 1.
3. Ensure the admission/invitation letter reaches SAIA, n. o., no later than the 3rd working day after the application deadline by midnight, taking into account Slovakia’s legal working days.
Duration of the National Scholarship Program (NSP)
The National Scholarship Program 2024 of Slovakia offers short-term funding for researchers at higher educational institutions in Slovakia.
- Duration for students: 1-2 full semesters (approximately 4-10 months) or 1-3 trimesters if the academic year is divided into trimesters (approximately 3-10 months).
- Duration for PhD students: 1-10 months.
- Duration for university teachers, researchers, or artists: 1-10 months.
